The Bichon Frise is a small, sturdy, white powder puff dog whose merry temperament is evidenced by the plumed tail carried jauntily over the back and the dark-eyed inquisitive expression.
The Bichon is of Mediterranean ancestry, descending from the Barbet or Water Spaniel, and is related to the Maltese. Bichons have been a distinct breed since about 1400 and came to this country in the 1950's, primarily from France and Belgium. It is not part poodle.
This outgoing and friendly "lap dog" provides a good time with its playful antics. Average weight of an adult is eight to sixteen pounds. Average height is nine to eleven inches.
