The Beagle ancestry has been traced back to Greece in 400 BC.  The Romans are also thought to have transported them to England as small rabbit hunting hounds.

Beagle dogs are energetic, active, alert and even-tempered.  They are very social and like the company of people and other dogs.

Their coat is short and requires minimal grooming. A regular brushing and bath will help control shedding.  There are variations in their hair color, although the most common is black, tan and white.  The height is from thirteen to fifteen inches.
